Here's What Previous Interns Have to Say About the FCFF Internships
“My name is Wu Xiao and I am a third year International Relations student at Western University. I was a Marketing & Communications Intern at FCFF during their 2018 festival season. As a non-arts student, the four months I spent at FCFF were incredibly rewarding as it was a fun challenge engaging in a sector outside of my expertise.
I had a lot of flexibility to experiment and choose my own route as an intern. My main tasks were to execute a social media calendar and be the liaison between FCFF and filmmakers. While other members of the team focused on areas such as videography or photography, I chose to expand my communication skills. I published bi-weekly articles for the FCFF website and conducted interviews with filmmakers to supplement my writing portfolio. A highlight of my internship experience was the opportunity FCFF provided to connect with industry professionals such as directors, producers, and board members of media corporations like Discovery Canada and Shaftesbury Media.
The communication and networking skills I gained at FCFF were integral to my professional and personal growth. Since FCFF, I’ve done freelance writing for VOLTA Magazine and am currently a Summer Intern at the NATO Association of Canada.”
“After gaining experience in marketing and event planning at the 2017 Forest City Film Festival, I started working as a Marketing Manager at a tech consulting company. Although very different fields, what was at the core of what I learned at FCFF was applicable to marketing in any industry. Managing traditional and digital campaigns, understanding your audience, and organizing ideas that would mobilize your audience to purchase your product are skills I had a chance to fine-tune at FCFF in a safe space, preparing me well for any marketing job.”
